Experience

It is true, just the mere fact that we lived there makes us unique. There’s a certain twinkle in the eyes of those who have lived in Tembagapura. Maybe it’s the water, or the location, or how high it is from sea level, or the experiences we encountered…or maybe its the magic of that jewel of a town…nested in beautiful rainforests and majestic mountains. Whatever it is, I will never forget Tembagapura or that bond it has created among the people who have called it home. There’s always that dull pain in my heart whenever I think about Tembagapura. Mostly because I know things will never be the same again. And I sometimes think that my friends around me are so lucky cause they grew up in their birthplace — they never had to leave it. But then, they also never experienced Tembagapura…

Experience

Tembagapura is a strange, wonderful, magical memory I can always fall back on when times get tough (…and when they don&amp#39;t, for that matter). Sometimes I look back and wonder if it was just figment of my imagination. There, I made the best of friends, had the funnest of times, and had the most amazing experiences any person could have in a lifetime. I grew up in that little town nestled in the middle of nowhere. Had to get through the good times and bad times, not to mention the boredom and wet weather… At the time, I wanted so much to see the rest of the real world, but now that I&amp#39;m out and about, sometimes I wish I could go back into the seclusion of the jungles of Tembagapura. It has contributed to a large part of who I am today because of the people I met and the experiences I had. I wouldn&amp#39;t trade any of it for the world. Here&amp#39;s to the craziest, funnest, best childhood any person could ask for. ;)

I lived in Tembagapura since 1980. I am one of the 1996 YPJ (Yayasan Pendidikan Jayawijaya) alumnies. Tembagapura is the BEST place to live. The thing that I like the most about Tembagapura is the environment and the Papuans! Man…. I miss going home!

Experience

As a kid living in T-bags was an awesome experience and something I truely think helped mold me into the person I am now. We had so much more independence living in a small isolated town than we would have back in the states. Ran around the streets alone, placing various rock games and exploring the rocks that were the playgrounds of our neighborhood in Palapa. Trading the native children cokes for the small junk they could find in the area. My dad running the hash run and returning with a huge stick protruding from his calf- that was gross! The great flood that happened while I was home with the maid and my parents were at the lupa layla club. School was cancelled for like a week beacause of it- I was glad my good friends lived on the same side of the river as me. The experiences I went through are one that no one understands unless they were there. I am still in contact with some of the people I knew there– from when I was in third, fourth and fifth grade. The experience is one that binded the souls involved together in a very special way. I will never forget or regret any of my encounters in Tembagapura. For me this T-bags influenced my career choice also - I plan on teaching in the states for a while and then hope to teach over seas. Had I never lived there I may never have learned to love traveling as much as I have, or learned that it pays to be adventurous. The good the bad– it all was an experience that has deeply influenced me!!

Experience

Tpura was a wild and exotic location to grow up but also so peaceful from the disruptions from our technology overloaded world … back then there were no tvs, no movies, no internet, no vcrs, no radio … we had to make our own entertainment. and we did!! It is very difficult to share Tpura experiences with outsiders … because it wasnt just that it was a wild time in the middle of a rain forest it was also the unique people who are attracted to a place like Tpura that made it a wonderful place to live.

Experience

All in all it was quite an expirience. One that really means a lot to me. I have thought of Tembagapura many times over the years. There was a time in my life when I was sure that I wanted to move back. Unfortunately my first wife was not very understanding about the whole idea.
